Safecopter was originally developed by the Rotorcraft Division at NASA Ames Research Center as a clearing house for safety information directly related to helicopters. It is not intended to promote or disparage any commercial products, only to make the helicopter industry aware of what  information and safety products are available.

Safecopter is now being maintained and further developed by the International Helicopter Safety Team (IHST). The IHST's members come from all aspects of the helicopter industry, all over the world, including various government agencies such as NASA, FAA and the NTSB and their counterparts in other countries.
